Tank Team Battle: hidden eagles, seven power-ups and 250 scenes

A team tank battle where every eagle stays hidden until its whole team is gone. How a battle is won, what each power-up does, and how to pick a scene.

Tank Team Battle is a top-down tank game on a grid, but you never fight alone: you drive one tank in a team of yellow tanks, next to computer-controlled allies, against one to three rival teams. You can also play it in your browser.

Controls

You only steer. Move with the arrow keys or WASD, or with the on-screen D-pad. Your tank fires on its own about every 1.5 seconds, always in the direction it is facing, so aiming means turning toward the target and lining up on the same row or column. Esc or P pauses.

How a battle is won

Every team has an eagle base, but it is hidden at the start. The battle runs in two steps:

  1. Each team has a fixed number of tanks. They enter in waves until the whole team has been sent in.
  2. When a team has no tanks left to send and none alive, its eagle appears. Every other team then rushes at it and fires faster.

You win when every enemy eagle has been destroyed. If your own team runs out, your eagle is exposed and you lose the moment an enemy hits it. Your shots never hurt your allies or your own eagle. If every team is wiped out at the same time, the battle ends in a draw. When your own tank is destroyed, you keep watching while your allies fight on.

Points: 100 for an enemy tank, 400 for a boss tank and 500 for an enemy eagle.

Power-ups

Two power-ups lie on the map at the start, a new one appears about every 8 seconds, and there are never more than four at once. Whoever drives over one gets it, ally or enemy. The computer tanks go for power-ups too, so grabbing one also takes it away from them.

| Power-up | What it does | |---|---| | Star | fires faster for 10 s | | Bomb | next 8 shots explode over a 3×3 area | | Shovel | next 6 shots break through steel walls | | Speed | moves 1.75× faster for 12 s | | Lightning | next 5 shots hit the whole row or column at once | | Rapid fire | fires about three times as fast for 12 s | | Wall phase | drives through brick and steel for 9 s |

Lightning is the strongest: one shot clears a full line of walls and every enemy tank on it, and once an eagle is visible it can reach that too. Bomb blasts break bricks but not steel; for steel you need the Shovel. When Wall phase runs out, the wall block you are standing in is destroyed.

Scenes

There are 250 scenes, each with 2 to 4 teams and 3 to 10 tanks per team, on 20 map themes such as Grassland, Brick Maze, River Delta and Factory Yard. Water blocks tanks, grass hides them, bricks break, and steel only gives way to the Shovel, Lightning or Wall phase. The scene list is sorted from the fewest teams and tanks up. Some scenes are boss scenes: the last tank of each enemy team is a boss that takes 4 hits.

The game keeps a record for every scene on your device: cleared or failed, attempts, best score and best time.

Quick tips

  • Turn first, then line up: since you fire on your own, the facing direction is your aim.
  • Stay near your allies early. Lone tanks get caught between two teams.
  • With 3 or 4 teams, let rivals wear each other down; an eagle only appears when its whole team is gone.
  • Save Lightning shots for a row with several enemy tanks, or for an eagle behind walls.
