Text Extractor: turn a photo into editable notes

Capture, crop, brighten, extract — then keep your notes organised in groups. A step-by-step guide to Text Extractor and tips for cleaner results.

Text Extractor turns a camera shot into text you can edit, copy and keep. The text recognition runs on your device, and your library stays there unless you export or back it up yourself. No account is needed. It runs in your browser and on Android.

From photo to note

  1. Open the app, tap Start, then go to Generate.
  2. Tap Camera and take a photo of the text — a whiteboard, a printed page, a receipt, a sign or handwritten notes.
  3. On the edit screen, drag the crop corners and edges so only the text is left.
  4. Drag Brightness; the preview updates live.
  5. Tap Extract text.
  6. Review the result and fix any mistakes in the editor.
  7. Add a name and tags, choose a group and tap Save to Library.

Quick tip mode: many notes in a row

Turn on Quick tip when you have a stack of pages or receipts. It chains capture → crop → extract → group → save and opens the camera again for the next note.

Keeping the library tidy

  • Group chips filter the list; Search looks in note names and text.
  • Tick several notes to import, export or delete them together.
  • With a single group selected, move notes up and down to reorder them.
  • From the Library gear you can reorder groups, rename or delete custom groups, and star a default group — handy before a long Quick tip session. Notes from a deleted group move to Uncategorized.

Better results

  • Crop tightly around the ink. Less background means cleaner text.
  • Raise brightness on dark shots.
  • Hold the camera square to the page; text at a steep angle is harder to read.
  • Name your notes — Search works best when names say what the note is.

Backups

Settings offer Backup / Restore as a JSON file, with a choice to replace everything or merge. Make a backup before you switch phones or clear the app's data, because the library lives on the device. Settings also hold sound effects, music and eight interface languages.
