Guide
Snake Run: fruit, poison, and the three power-ups
Classic grid snake with a twist: every fruit comes with a poison next to it. How many pickups each level needs, how fast it gets, and what Speed, Grow and Ghost really do.
Snake Run is grid snake in its classic form: the snake moves one cell at a time, hitting a wall or your own body ends the run, and every bite makes you longer. The twist is poison. You can also play it in your browser.
Controls
Steer with the on-screen D-pad, by swiping, or with the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard. Space starts a run. You can't turn straight back into yourself: pressing the opposite direction does nothing.
Fruit and poison
Fruit always appears together with a poison somewhere else on the board. Biting the poison ends the run. Eat the fruit and its poison disappears with it, then a new pair appears. So the poison is not a permanent wall: the quickest way to clear it is to reach the fruit.
Levels
Each level asks for a number of pickups: 7 at level 1, then 3 more per level (10, 13, 16…). Fruit and power-ups both count, but the level only ends on a fruit. Fruit scores 10 points, a power-up 15.
The snake moves a little faster every level: one step about every 0.32 s at level 1, 0.26 s at level 5, 0.19 s at level 10, and from level 13 on it stays at its top speed of one step every 0.15 s. Your snake also keeps its length from one level to the next, so the board gets tighter as you go. The game saves the highest level you've reached.
Power-ups
More items appear on the board as the levels go up.
| Item | From level | What it does | |---|---|---| | Speed | 2 | the snake moves almost twice as fast for 5 s | | Grow | 3 | adds 3 segments at once instead of 1 | | Ghost | 4 | for 6 s, biting a poison does nothing |
Speed is a challenge rather than a gift: you get the 15 points, but you have to steer at almost double pace. Ghost only protects you from poison; walls and your own body still end the run.
Quick tips
- Plan a route to the fruit first, and treat its poison as a block that goes away as soon as you get there.
- Late in a level, skip Grow if the board is already crowded; one fruit is all you need to finish.
- Before taking Speed, make sure there is open space ahead of you.
